Malaysia – Malaysia consists of East and West Malaysia across the South China Sea. East Malaysia is commonly known as Malaysian Borneo which houses the two important states of Sabah and Sarawak

East Malaysia – Sabah is the second largest state, located at the northern part of Borneo. Its population of 3.5 million consists of various ethnic groups with Kadazan-Dusun as the main indigenous people. Mount Kinabalu, the country’s highest peak, is renowned for mountain climbing adventures. Sabah is also known for its beaches, rainforest, coral reefs and abundant wildlife, with islands famous for diving.

Arrive Kota Kinabalu airport by flight meet and transfer to Shangri-la’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa. Free at own leisure.

Overnight at Shangri-la’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa

Immerse yourself in a nature trek in Gaya Island, located 30-minutes by speedboat from Kota Kinabalu. Trek to one of the trails and learn about the unique medicinal plants, tropical hardwood trees and tropical Dipterocarp rainforest. After the trek, a boat will transfer you to another island where you will enjoy your lunch (picnic box) by the beach before venturing for a swim or simply laze away. A great way to dispel the jet lag as you’ll almost certainly be well relaxed and rested after this.

Overnight at Shangri-la’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa

Drive 2 hours overland to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu at 1500m above sea level. Have a short stop at Pekan Nabalu market. Continue 40 km overland journey to Poring at 1,500ft asl. Explore tropical rainforest among the jungle trail leading to the treetop canopy walkways (suspended 41 meters across above the forest floor. Proceed to visit the Kinabalu Natural History Gallery and Mountain Garden in Kinabalu Park Headquarters. If weather permits, take a guided walk on one of the trails in the cool surrounding to explore the montane forest. Return to Kota Kinabalu. Overnight at Shangri-la’s Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa

Transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport for early morning flight to Sandakan. Arrival meet and greet, transfer to jetty for one-hour boat ride to Selingan Island. Free at leisure to explore island, swim and snorkel. After dinner, proceed with park ranger to watch Green Turtle lay eggs on the beach, transplanting of eggs to hatchery and release of baby turtles to the sea.

Return to Sandakan by boat. Transfer to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. Walk ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden boardwalks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 1000hrs, and then we continue to the newly completed enclosed nursery area for young orang utans. Thereafter visit the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about conservation of the world’s smallest bear.

After lunch, depart for an estimated 2 hour overland journey to the multi awards winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Take an afternoon river cruise in search of wildlife and birds using a boat with hybrid system of outboard and electric motor (depending on river current). Enjoy candlelight dinner overlooking the riverbank followed by slide presentation and interpretation by naturalist guide. Stay overnight at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Early morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, proceed for an educational tour along the lodge’s Hornbill Boardwalk with our in-house naturalist. After lunch, join our in-house Orang Utan Talk activity. In the afternoon, we proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife.

Overnight at the Sukau Rainforest Lodge.

Take an early Morning River cruise along the Menanggol River in search of wildlife. In the late afternoon, proceed 27 km overland journey to the vicinity of Gomantong Cave. Traverse to the Gomantong Caves on a 15-minute boardwalk trail through the rainforest, and we might be able to sight the “Man of the jungle”. Witness the exodus of million bats as well as raptors.

Overnight Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Check out early and proceed 2.5 hours overland to Lahad Datu where we’ll stopover for registration. Then continue to drive 83km to Borneo Rainforest Lodge which is surrounded by pristine virgin rainforests. In the evening, a slide show and explore nature trail leading to canopy walkway.

Overnight Borneo Rainforest Lodge

Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to waterfall for a refreshing dip in rock pools. Return to lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, explore more trails.

Overnight Borneo Rainforest Lodge

Free at leisure until check-out. Depart back to Lahad Datu. Take the late afternoon flight back to Kota Kinabalu
